AFIEGO's programmes aim at mobilising and sensitising communities, various stakeholders and the general public to participate in energy planning processess, implementation and enforcement of energy laws and policies that  promote good governance and ultimately improve the livelihoods of its citizens.

 AFIEGO's activities fall under the following programmes:


Electricity Democracy Programme

The overall objective of this programme is to promote and advocate for the rights of people/ communities by building their capacity in order to advocate for the availability, accessibility and affordability of electricity.
AFIEGO has carried out the following activities under this programme:

• AFIEGO has produced two research briefs on Electricity Governance in Uganda


•  Published over nine informative and educative news paper articles on the economic, political and social issues pertaining the electricity sector in Uganda.


• Attended and participated in various public dialogues, participated in seminars, workshops and training programs on energy governance and resource conservation issues. AFIEGO and other consumer partners are in the high court of Uganda challenging the 2006 electricity tariff increase by the government and ERA.


• Through various sensitisation and advocacy meetings, AFIEGO has continued to challenge Government to commit to providing citizens with accessible and affordable electricity


Extractive Industries Governance Programme
The overall objective of the Extractive Industries Governance Programme is to promote Good Governance in the Extractive Industry in Uganda through research and advocacy. This programme also aims at exploring the benefits of the extractive industry in Uganda, identifying gaps in the Legal and Policy frameworks and assisting Government find alternatives for proper management of the Industry. The programme has carried out a number  activities that aim at meeting the above objective:

AFIEGO has published two research papers namely:
• Promoting the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative principles within the access rights framework in the Oil Sub sector in Uganda
• Advocating for the effective application of access rights in the Oil sub sector in Uganda

• News paper articles on the ongoing oil processes written by AFIEGO staff have been published in the local newspapers to generate public debates and participation on the ongoing oil exploration in Uganda. 


• Workshops and advocacy meetings have taken place both in Kampala and Hoima and they have brought together various stakeholders with a general consensus to advocate for the proper management of revenues generated from the Oil and Gas production, ultimately benefiting Uganda and improving the livelihoods of the public. AFIEGO continues to carry out numerous activities to promote transparency and accountability in the extractive industry in Uganda.



Renewable Energy Efficiency Programme

The over all objective of the programme is to promote efficient utilisation of renewable sources in Uganda in order contribute to sustainable development and environmental conservation. This programme will encompass the Renewable Energy Sector in Uganda which includes Water, Forests, Wind Solar, geothermal and Biofuels. It is therefore necessary to have a proper understanding of their utility and conservation the renewable energy sector in Uganda.

Under this programme AFIEGO has partnered with other organisations such as the National Association of Proffessional Environmentalists (NAPE) in promoting environmental sanitation practices through training, awareness campaigns and supporting the community to access clean energy. AFIEGO has also produced articles that have been published in the local media to attract debates and discussions on renewable energy and also recommend ways of attaining clean energy, available, accessible and affordable to people especially the poor.
